Newcastle vs. Arsenal – Match Preview and Betting Tips

Facing Newcastle at home has never been an easy mission, but I strongly believe that Arsenal is playing the Magpies at the best possible time. Crippled by injuries and with an offense that relies on only three strikers, the hosts are undermanned tonight and will struggle for goals.

Match Preview

Andy Caroll has just been transferred, but unfortunately he is injured, as well as Shola Amoebi who suffered a cheekbone fracture after the Fulham match. This leaves Newcastle with Best, Ranger and Lovenkrands upfront and neither of these is a world class player that can outplay the visitors’ defense Add to this the long term absence of Ben Arfa and you’ve got the bigger picture on the chances Newcastle has in terms of goal scoring.

Arsenal is not injury free either, but they have the right players to fill in the gaps. Nasri, Song, Denilson and Fabianski will miss this fixture, while Theo Walcott is doubtful with an ankle injury. I expect him to play tonight, if not from the first minute at least we’ll see him in the second half. Either way, Arshavin and van Persie will fill in for Nasri and Walcott with ease, so the visitors still have the better offense and this should be fairly clear even before the break.

What we can expect from this match is a tough battle in midfield, where the absence of Ben Arfa will play an important role. Best and Ranger won’t receive the assistance they need and while Ranger is too young and inexperienced,  Best is at most an average player, despite his name. The bottom line is that there isn’t much goal threat from Newcastle, but the crowd won’t let their team park the bus, so they’ll have to take chances.

Betting Tip

Odds were as high as 1.75, but as more and more people jumped on the Arsenal bandwagon, they are slowly decreasing. While they’ve hit the 1.65 mark, I believe that there is still value in the odds and the wise thing to do would be to back the visitors at medium high stakes, before the odds will further decrease.
