Netherlands vs Japan – betting tips, match prediction and preview

World Cup BettingNetherlands play Japan at 12:30 BST in Saturday’s first World Cup match in South Africa. The two countries won their opener in Group E against Denmark and Cameroon respectively and now have a chance to take the final step toward the last 16 at the World Cup.

Match Preview

The Japanese shocked the football world by winning their first round match at the World Cup, but the victory came cheap against a very poor Cameroon side. This said it was a much-needed victory for Japan, as they had lost their previous four matches going into the World Cup. With the victory they hopefully got some self-confidence back, which will be needed in the Blue Samurai’s match against the Netherlands today. Besides their World Cup campaign on home soil, they have gone no further than the group stage, but their historic win against Cameroon has once again raised their hopes of a place between the last 16 at the World Cup. The match against the Dutch will be an entirely different matter though, but their new found confidence might help them contain the world class Dutch attack.

Holland played an unstable match against Denmark in their first round, which was put down to nerves by Coach Bert van Marwijk. Their display in the first 45 minutes was quite poor considering their level of players, but they got some much-needed help from the Danes in the second half, when they scored in their own net. Afterward their play did become better and they secured comfortable 2-0 victory, which hopefully will take away their nerves before their match against Japan.

Team Updates

At the moment the Netherlands are expected to play with the same team that opened against Denmark. Once again Arjen Robben will take the bench, but he has started training by himself this week and looks to recover from his hamstring injury within the next week.

The Japanese coach Takeshi Okada is not expected to make changes either and will likely use the same defensive 4-1-4-1 line-up that proved effective against Cameroon.

Netherlands vs Japan betting tip

We opt to bet on Holland as outright winner in the match at odds 1.40 at 888 sports.

The two countries played each other for the first time back in September last year, where the Dutch won 3-0 despite being more than pressured by a well playing Japanese side. Nevertheless, Netherlands are the huge favorites going into the match and are a world class team. They should be able to dominate the match with their powerful offensive football, and the only question is by how much they will win. The Dutch have played Asian countries three times before at the World Cup and have scored 10 goals winning all three matches. Our match prediction will be 2-0 or 3-0 for the Dutch, why sports betters could go for the handicap bet on Holland at odds 2.15 at 888 Sport.

Especially new customers at 888 Sports should opt for the handicap bet, as 888 Sports offer a £20 no lose bet to welcome new customers at their site.
