Milan vs. Tottenham – Match Preview – Betting Tips – Match Odds

Champions League LogoAC Milan managed to consolidate their lead in the Serie A, following the 4-0 trashing of Parma, but this is the first real test for the Italian side in 2011. The Champions League is the ultimate prize and since the 2005 amazing final against Liverpool, AC Milan has been unable to progress further than the group stage. This being said, they are in an excellent position to win the two-legged fixture against Tottenham, with the first round being critical.

Match Preview

The bookmakers are giving the same odds for a home victory tonight and for AC Milan to go through, which is a goon pointer for what they expect. If the Italian team wins on San Siro, they will find it fairly easy to progress, but taking all three points at White Hart Lane is a tall order. In addition the question is whether Massimiliano Allegri has enough options both upfront and in the middle to compensate for Cassano, van Bommel or Emanuelson, who are going to miss tonight.

They’ve been playing for their former clubs before the winter trades, and they are hence ineligible to compete against Tottenham. The hosts are going to start this math very offensive minded, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see as many as three strikers from the very beginning. With Robinho playing behind Ibrahimovic and Pato, the chances are high that Milan will take advantage of the visitors’ struggles in the defense.

Tottenham is weakened by the injuries that plague the squad, with Younes Kaboul, Ledley King, Tom Huddlestone and Jermaine Jenas missing. However, arguably the most important players that will not play tonight for the visitors are Bale and Modric, some of the key midfielders. The first is also the leading goal scorer and his role in the 4-3 defeat at San Siro a few months ago was huge. Bale played the most important part with his hat-trick, helping a team who was playing 10 vs. 11 to regain confidence and almost draw the game.

Betting Tip

With the players missing tonight there is little hope for Redknapp and his boys to avoid a defeat in Italy, and they can only hope for a close margin defeat. Losing by one goal and even scoring once would be a positive result for the English side, who can hope for a victory in front of their fans in London. For now the doubts over Crouch’s fitness and his ability to start are just as high, as the fears that Van der Vaart won’t be able to play at the highest level, as he is returning after a calf injury.

Betting tip – AC Milan to win.
