Manchester United vs. Manchester City – Match Preview – Betting tips

It doesn’t get more intense than this and with all the international fixtures just a few days away, things will only get more spicy. Neither would even consider the alternative of resting players for the European matches, as this is arguably the most important match of the season. It would be a highlight for both teams, even if they wouldn’t compete for the title, as the sheer rivalry is enough.

Match Preview

The home pitch advantage and the way they’ve dominated opponents at home, gives United the first class chance against their city rivals. It will be interesting to see if Ferguson goes all in against City and pushes forward with Berbatov, Nani and Rooney, as he did in the last round. Back then there was no other choice really, as the last placed Wolves stunned Manchester with a 2-1 defeat.

The first thing Ferguson must do is to make sure that Tevez is well guarded, following the rampage against West Bromwich. We’ll see two players trying to block him all the time, and the fans will also help with a constant pressure and booing against the former devil. What will definitely not help the hosts is the absence of Rio Ferdinand, who is still injured and will miss this crucial match.

City is not injury free either and will have at least a player missing from each section, with Adam Johnson, Mario Balotelli and Micah Richards ruled out. Mancini can deal with these missing players, although upfront there is not real option to start alongside Tevez. Don’t forget that this is an Italian coach, who will put safety first at all times, even when it is clear City needs a victory. I expect to see the visitors using a rather safe 4-5-1 formation, and they will most likely settle with a draw.

The problem is that United can’t afford any mistakes following the Wolverhampton disaster, and players will try to rebound in this crucial fixture. With Arsenal lurking behind and waiting to challenge the leader, Manchester is under immense pressure. Add to this the Gunners easy match with the Wolves, and you’ve got a better picture of what the devils are up against.

Betting tip

Regardless of Mancini’s strategy for this match, City is clearly the underdog and for a good reason. They lack a competent striker besides Tevez, who is himself rather unpredictable, and they are up against the best home team in the Premier League. I don’t believe that this will be a low scoring match, and I’d back up Manchester United any time at these odds of 1.80.

Betting tip – Manchester United to win.
