Match Preview

Things continue to look promising for Manchester United following their win against Rangers earlier this week in their Champions’ League group stage match and subsequently succeeding in qualifying into the knockout stage. In addition, Ferguson’s big guns are finally match ready having Vidic, Ferdinand and of course Rooney back in the squad.

Wayne Rooney got his first goal against Rangers since August, where he scored also scored on penalty against West Ham. He is still far from his usual blistering form that wows fans and terrorizes defenders, but that is to be expected since he’s just back from injury and may be a little rusty from months spent away from the field.

Owen and Hargreaves are yet to make comebacks with Valencia sidelined till February. The probable lineup for United remains 4-4-2 with Rooney and Berbatov as the attacking forwards. Giggs and Nani are likely to provide wing support with Anderson and Carrick expected to form the rest of the midfield.

To counter this strong Manchester United team, Blackburn Manager Sam Allardyce, who has developed a reputation as a ‘Giant Killer’, will be searching for something special to take points home from the Old Trafford. To do this, the team that has historically struggled significantly against the Red Devils, will likely go with the 4-4-2 formation with David Dunn and Nikola Kalinic as the main forwards. The question is whether it will be enough to score a goal or two for Blackburn, which will be necessary to beat United.

Unfortunately Sam Allardyce side is without quite a few players at the moment, including Andrews, Grella, Benjani, Nzozi, Olson, Mame Diouf and Emerton. In addition Givet and Pedersen are doubtful, which make their trip to United quite a mission for Blackburn.

Betting Tip for Manchester United vs Blackburn

The game, as stated earlier will take place at the Old Trafford at 15.00 GMT on Saturday and will be refereed by L. Probert. It will be interesting to see how this game goes, as one team looks to maintain an unbeaten run, with a striker who is yet to live up to the hype surrounding his return, while the other looks to maintain their killer instinct against big clubs.

Looking at today’s match United normally have a good take on Blackburn with 7 wins in the last 9 encounters between the sides. Last time Rovers won was back in 2006, where they defeated United 4-3 after Ferdinand was sent off. This said, it does not look promising today considering their injuries and United’s current unbeaten run. In addition The Red Devils are getting better and better for each game and normally does well during the tough winter months.

Our betting tip will be Manchester United to win.
