Match Preview

There is definitely no love lost between these two teams, and we can expect nothing but an explosive game this Wednesday. This will likely be the toughest test for United, as they look to maintain their unbeaten run so far this season, while Manchester City is slowly recovering from their loss to Lazio in the Europa League with a win this weekend and could top it with a win tonight.

Bad news for Manchester United is that Rooney has been ruled off from playing this game (not that this wasn’t expected), as he has been sent to the States to receive some treatment for his ankle and obviously to keep him out of the media spot light. In addition Hargreaves was injured his return Saturday, while Owen and Valencia are still out.

To make things worse for United Anderson, Berbatov, Carrick and Gibson are all doubtful due to a virus, while Giggs and Nani are doubtful as well with a hamstring and groin injury respectively. This said, United have won four of the last five games they have met head to head with City and will certainly look for nothing less than a win.

Manchester City on the other hand will look to battle their current dip in form, as well as club woes to win this tight encounter. Calls are already being made to their manager Mancini to quit, a fact that has rubbed him the wrong way, declaring vehemently that he will not quit unless he is fired. Prior to this weekend, the club has lost the last three games it has played, and they seem quite unsure with the ball. Their talisman Tevez has not made things any easier for them, following talk of ending his carrier, as he seems to have caught a serious case of ‘homesick flu’.

He has however been known to burst to life when facing Manchester United, which could be considered payback for allowing his transfer to Manchester City. If he still hasn’t gotten over it, expect a dramatic match. For tonight’s match they are missing Nimely and Johnson, while Adebayor is rated doubtful. Upfront Balotelli is missing as well due to his three match suspension.

Betting Tip for Manchester City vs Manchester United

As mentioned the last four Premier League encounters ended with United victory and City’s last win was back in February 2008 at Old Trafford. The main cause for concern tonight is United’s injuries and especially the virus that has gotten to key players up to the match. City have been down recently after trouble within the squad, but Mancini did get a victory this weekend and could get back on track winning the Derby tonight.

We expect a very tight match between the side’s tonight, however United’s doubtful players could swing the match in City’s favor. Our pick will be City win with 2-1 tonight.
