Germany vs Spain – betting tips, match preview and prediction

World Cup BettingGermany will play Spain in the second World Cup semi-final on Wednesday at 19:30 BST in Durban. For football fans allover the world this has been one of the most anticipated matches and besides providing a rematch of the final at the Euro 2008, the match guarantee great football from two of Europe’s finest sides at the moment.

Match Preview

The Germans are making their 11th World Cup semi-final appearance tonight, but unlike many previous World Cup’s they have played beautiful attacking football to reach their semi-final. At the knockout stage they have thrashed both England and Argentina with their ruthless and dangerous counter-attack. In either match the young German side had less ball possession, but was far more effective when they did have the ball. Actually Germany only managed to produce 13 shots on target; however eight shots found the net. Unfortunately for the Germans, they will have to do with Thomas Mueller tonight, who was by far one of the most dangerous against both England and Argentina.

Ironically Spain on the other side has been the one to play out their games with solid ground results, winning their three last matches by only one goal to reach the semi-final. Nevertheless they have done it with massive possession and have almost monopolized the ball in their matches. Their patience paid off against Portugal and Paraguay in the last two matches, but the Germans look far more dangerous in punishing on the counter-attack, which could cause problems for Spain. Going into the match Spain seem to have recovered from their surprising defeat to Switzerland, which might have helped them feel less invincible. However star striker Fernando Torres have yet to reach his normal level, but with David Villa more than shinning they could easily continue their ruthless winning streak at the World Cup to reach their first final.

Team Updates

Germany’s central defender Arne Friedrich has recovered from his foot injury, while also midfielder Sami Khedira and striker Cacau will be available after recovering from a thigh and an abdominal muscle injury. This gives Joachim Loew a full squad to choose from, with only suspended Thomas Mueller out tonight.

Spain’s central defender Carlos Puyol was questionable due to blurred vision, but has been cleared to play. Before the match Vicente del Bosque must choose whether to keep Fernando Torres up front after disappointing performances or find a substitute. However substitute in the Paraguay match, Cesc Fabregas, has been questionable for the match, which mean they will likely use Torres again.

Germany vs Spain betting tip

Our betting pick will be Spain to qualify for the World Cup final at odds 1.85 at 888 Sports.

We believe Spain will reach their first ever World Cup final tonight, but the match will be a tightly played out contest, where the small marginal could play a deciding factor. Normally Germany has been on the right side, when it comes to marginal games; however Spain must break their World Cup complex at some point and tonight is their chance to do so. They won their first European Championship by beating Germany in 2008, which gives them the upper hand going into the match, while their better international experience could play a role as well tonight. Our match prediction is 1-0 to Spain, but we have picked the safe option and opted to bet on Spain to qualify.

However players without an 888sports account should consider the outright win at odds 2.60, as they offer a £20 money back guarantee on new customers first bet. This ensures you will not lose any bets up to 20 pound, if Spain should not win the match.
