Espanyol vs. Real Madrid – Match Preview – Betting Tips – Odds

The unimaginable happened on Saturday and Barcelona was only 10 minutes away from losing in Gijon. For most of the match they were behind, and Villa’s late effort couldn’t prevent the first draw away from home in 2011. With these points lost and the record spoiled, they can do no more but wait patiently for Real Madrid to fail again and forfeit their title ambitions for good.

Funny enough, the ones they will be counting on to defeat Madrid at home are the bitter rivals from Espanyol. The hosts wouldn’t be too upset, if they’d trash Real and help Barcelona in the process, but the question is if they have what it takes to bring the Spanish giants to their knees. If the first half of the season would be enough to jump to conclusions, then we could trust them with at least a draw, but there is a darker side of the story.

Match Preview

Everything that Espanyol accomplished during the first half can literally go down the drain because of the club’s financial issues. Players are being sold in a frenzy lately, and there are no department of the team to remain unaffected by players leaving during the last few weeks. Ruiz and Didac were crucial in the defense and now they are gone, while upfront the hosts can’t count on Pablo Osvaldo, who is injured. Even without him they’ve scored twice away at Almeria, but conceded three goals and suffered a dramatic defeat.

The visitors are aware of the unique opportunity Gijon presented them with and will do everything in their power to reduce the gap. By winning this, Real will come only 5 points shy of tying Barcelona and although they remain underdogs, hope is restored. Mourinho will probably pick a slightly more offensive team to capitalize on Espanyol’s sub par defensive and score an early goal if possible. This has been the recipe for success, every team winning against Espanyol used in the last rounds.

Betting Tip

While Dudek and Higuain are still unavailable, the good news for the visitors is that Sergio Ramos and Pepe are fit to play. Compared to the absentees in Espanyol’s side, Real has no problem whatsoever, especially with such an amazing bench.  The hosts shouldn’t be underestimated and their fighting spirit will shine once again, but bet wise I will rather go for the over 2.5 goals.

Betting tip – Over 2.5 goals in match
