Match Preview

Chelsea seems to be back on track having successfully shrugged of their 2-0 loss to Liverpool with a narrow 1-0 win over Fulham. In addition their lead at the top of the table has been galvanized following a 0-0 draw by their main title challengers Manchester United, who once again had to settle for a draw yesterday against Aston Villa.

It was a mixture of sheer joy and grief for the Chelsea fans, as their goal scorer, Michael Essien, was shown the red card against Fulham and will thus be missing from the lineup set to face Sunderland. The good news is that striker Didier Drogba will certainly return to peak form, attributing his poor form to Malaria. Drogba, who is 32 years old, is expected to make a recovery and will be in the starting lineup, as they play Sunderland at home. Meaning Chelsea Boss Carlo Ancelotti, who recently shrugged off rumors that Fernando Torres could replace Drogba, will likely breathe a sigh of relief at the news of maintaining Drogba.

Sunderland on the other hand will thank Asamoah Gyan for his equalizer against Tottenham and will definitely depend on him to deliver at Stamford Bridge too. The hit-man netted the goal after a defensive blunder found him with the ball in front of goal and he had no choice but to punish Tottenham with a cool finish.

It will be interesting to see, who the blue’s manager -Ancelotti will bring in as a replacement to the disgraced Essien, as they play their 4-3-3 formation. Drogba, Anelka and Malouda are all match-ready and are likely to form the attacking front lineup. Their defense should be particularly keen on stopping Asamoah, although he is not the only danger-man in Sunderland. Players like Danny Welbeck and Ahmed El Mohamady could make any defender shake in his boots, and could cause problems for Chelsea within several of their normal starters in midfield to stabilize.

Betting Tip for Chelsea vs Sunderland

Sunderland have done well this season taking 16 points in total in 12 games, but only 4 points were won away from Stadium of Light. On other hand Chelsea have won 6 out of 6 home games this season and are looking unbeatable at Stamford Bridge. Taking into consideration their nine clean sheets in a row at home, it is difficult to see Sunderland win this one, even though Chelsea are without Essien and Lampard.

Our betting tip will be Chelsea to win with at least 2 goals.
