Atletico Madrid vs Valencia – Match Preview – Betting Tips

It is hard to believe that Atletico can sink any lower into mediocrity, but the Bats are trying to prove that this is not only possible, but rather a matter of time. It’s been an abysmal year for the hosts and the defeats are pilling up at such a frantic pace, that even the Europa League spots are starting to look like a bridge too far away. With the most important match of the week in Primera Division being played at Vicente Calderon stadium, they are under huge pressure.

Match Preview

Valencia is not carefree yet, but with 44 points in 22 games they can prepare for another Champions League campaign. The only team blocking their way is Villareal, so this match is all more important for the visitors. What is remarkable about Valencia this season, is that they lack star players and instead rely more on hard working ones. Names like Aduriz and Soldado are not going to impress many people, but these two strikers did an amazing job upfront.

Coach Unai Emery has played an important role as well, and even if he is not very popular among the fans, his tactic paid off so far. It is interesting to see if the visitors will try to capitalize on Atletico’s sudden meltdown, or if they will be playing safe and wait for an error. Either way, having Soldado and Aduriz in the attack is posing a real threat for a defensive system that is crumbling down.

The Atletico Madrid fans will probably go through some of the most intense 90 minutes of the season, but those who will be watching the match on TV are in for a treat. The hosts will not defend at home, that is for sure, and with players such as Forlan and Aguero, it would be foolish to do that. However, Valencia has grown into a very practical team, which performs well under pressure and is deadly on counterattacks.

Betting Tip

If things go according to the plan, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Atletico having better numbers in ball possession and shots on goal, but Valencia to score first.  In case the hosts are the first to concede a goal, I find it highly unlikely for them to rebound and turn the game in their favor. On the other hand, Valencia will seal their own half as soon as they are in advantage and maybe double up on counterattacks.

I fancy an exciting game with plenty of scoring opportunities, but if I’d have to put my money on either side I would definitely go for Valencia. The prudent thing to do is to take the double chance victory, so you check in on a draw, in case the game remains undecided after 90 minutes.

Betting tip – Valencia to win.
