Aston Villa Vs Manchester United – Premier League – Match Preview and Betting Tips

The Premier League is currently rife with retorts and counters between managers, but one cannot help but feel the spirit of the game, when a player recognizes and appreciates a longtime manager. I am of course referring to Sir Alex Ferguson’s branding as the ‘best coach in the world’ by his former danger-man Cristiano Ronaldo. I doubt the comment will leave Ferguson feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, but the ‘best coach’ will have to prove his ingenuity in management, when United face off with Aston Villa today at exactly 12.45 PM GMT at Villa Park.

Match Preview

Though United have gone unbeaten for a record 25 games, they are still far from leading the pack in the league table, where Chelsea are sitting comfortably following a series of dour stalemates. Earlier this week United played 0-0 with their city rivals Manchester City, and looking back they could really use Rooney’s services again.

Their team has been riddled with injuries and in addition flu among key players that caused them not to work coherently like the well oiled machine they are. Supporting my point is none other than Beyer Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack, who believes that Bayern’s Schweinsteiger would be a perfect fit for them.

Man United will be boosted somewhat today by the resurgence of Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov, while Bebe is also available for play. On the downside Paul Scholes has finally accumulated enough yellow cards and will miss this game (you could almost say, he was aspiring to break a yellow card record), while Gibson and Anderson are doubtful with Valencia, Rooney, Hargreaves and Rafael definitely out.

Aston Villa have also not been spared the wallowing miasma of injuries that are sweeping teams player by player, as they head into this match without nine of their players. Their recent win over Blackburn will surely give them the boost they need and hopefully a good deal of confidence, if they are to snatch all the three points at home against unbeaten United.

Going onwards to the lineup! Both teams are likely to go with a 4-4-2 formation. For United, Hernandez and Berbatov are likely to make the attacking front with wing support from Giggs (If he finally shrugs off a ham string injury) and Nani. The defense looks stable with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic as central defenders, although O’shea will be the left back with Evra out in an ankle injury (that is if he doesn’t make a recovery in time). Villa on the other hand are likely to go with a duo of Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor as the attacking front with Marc Albrighton and Stewart Downing as the wing players.

Betting Tips for Aston Villa vs Manchester United

The side’s head to head history tells a one-sided story, as Aston Villa has only snatched all three points one time in twenty-seven matches against Manchester United. This said, their last win was recently and came with a 1-0 victory last season at Old Trafford, but playing at Villa Park the last victory was back in 1995 in the Premier League.

Unfortunately it does not look promising for Villa today either, even though they take on a somewhat mediocre United side. Their own injuries are stacking up and should Ireland not came back from illness, they will face mountain to climb. For Man Utd this will be a must win despite being away, as they need all three points to keep up with Chelsea and put the pressure on them before their Sunday match.

We believe they will succeed today, although with a small margin. Our betting tip will be a 2-1 win for Man Utd and another loss for Aston Villa at home.
