Argentina vs Portugal – Match Preview – Betting Tips – Match Odds

It would be unfair to reduce this entire match to a Messi vs. Ronaldo duel, but following the intense fight Barcelona and Real are engaged in, it pretty much come down to this. Will Ronaldo be able to carry the Portuguese side to victory, or will the South Americans prevail thanks to a better squad depth and a brilliant offensive player, such as Messi.

Match Preview

One concern that is always on a punters mind, is the way these superstars will  perform in a friendly match with no stakes. Their country’s honor and glory should be all that matters, but we all know that money makes the world go around. Some players will be rested and some will play below their potential, others are concerned about injuries and others will be replaced during the match to test various configurations. The bottom line is that backing teams in friendly games is pretty risky, unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Argentina will probably start with Romero, Zanetti, Burdisso, Milito, Rojo , Banega, Mascherano, Cambiasso, Lavezzi, Messi and Di María. Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero were not even called in for this match by Sergio Batista, after they’ve played an important role in Maradona’s plans to build up a new national team. Diego Millito will also miss this fixture after suffering a slight injury in Sunday’s game, but there will be enough strikers upfront to make up for his loss.

Portugal fights back with a squad featuring Eduardo, Bosingwa, Rolando, Bruno Alves, Fabio Coentrao, Meireles, Martins, Moutinho ,Ronaldo, Postiga and Nani. It will be very interesting to see how the team fares without Ricardo Carvalho, but upfront they look pretty solid. Cristiano Ronaldo is the man to watch out for again, that is if he plays his best football, but so far we don’t have reasons to expect much from him. Lately in big games he has been rather disappointing, and he can easily lose his temper even in friendly games.

Betting Tip

The game will be played in Genève, Switzerland, so you can forget about home pitch advantage and roaring crowds. It will be an interesting match to watch and players in both squads should try to fascinate the public and convince the coach of their worth. Betting wise, I would recommend you to back Argentina, and the more cautious punters with the cover of a 0-0 Asian handicap, which will refund your money in case the match ends undecided.

Betting Tip – Argentina to win.
