Switzerland vs Honduras – betting tips, match preview and prediction

Friday, June 25th, 2010

World Cup BettingSwitzerland plays Honduras today at 19:30 BST in Bloemfontein. The Swiss can still qualify for the last 16, thanks to their surprising victory against Spain, but they will most likely have to win against Honduras in their last group match tonight and preferably win big.

Match Preview

The Swiss delivered one of many surprises so far during the World Cup and maybe the most surprising single result in all matches at the World Cup. At the same time their 1-0 victory against Spain gives them a good chance to qualify for the last 16, although a comfortable win will most likely be necessary tonight. The team coached by legendary Ottmar Hitzfeld, do need at least a two goal win tonight, but maybe less depending on the game between Spain and Chile. The Swiss will be cheering for Chile though, as one point would be enough for Switzerland, if Chile wins, while three points would be necessary should Chile and Spain draw. On other hand Switzerland will need the two-goal swing and a win, if Spain should win against Chile.

Switzerland has played conservatively so far at the World Cup, earning the record for most minutes without conceding goals at the World Cup before the goal from Chile. However they need goals tonight and must abandon some of their conservative style, which Ottmar Hitzfeld is likely more than aware of before the match. Luckily they are up against Honduras, who is the only country without any goals or points yet. Honduras was outclassed against both Spain and Chile, where their lack of defensive organization were the most oblivious weakness. Nevertheless, Honduras could actually qualify for the knockout stage, if they manage a five-goal swing to Spain and win their match tonight.

Team Updates

The Swiss is missing Valon Behrami after his red card against Chile, but he will be replaced by more than competent Tranquillo Barnetta, who was benched in the second match. At the moment Philippe Senderos looks not to come back from his injury.

Honduras will need goals tonight to qualify and will likely use two men upfront. It is expected either Carlos Pavon or Georgie Welcome will join forward David Suazo to create more chances

Switzerland vs Honduras betting tips

Our betting pick is Switzerland as outright winner at odds 1.50 at William Hill Sports.

Honduras lost 1-0 to Chile and 2-0 to Spain, but the result lie somewhat compared to actual strength of Honduras. In both matches they gave away a lot of chances and could easily have lost with 3 or 4 goals in each. Although not playing impressive football, Switzerland did perform better in both their matches against the same teams. Especially the tactical performance was impressive and really showed the impact of Ottmar Hitzfeld on the Swiss team. This could be a deciding factor between the two sides tonight, as the lack of defensive discipline by Honduras will be tested in a game where both sides must come forward. The match prediction will be a 2-0 victory to the Swiss, who on top of being a better team has greater motivation tonight and a realistic chance of qualifying.

2010 World Cup betting – Winner pick

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

world-cup-2010The 2010 World Cup is just around the corner, but who has the biggest chance of winning in South Africa. On Bonusriders we have analyzed the favorites and found the best winner pick for the World Cup in South Africa. Our betting advice will be to pick Brazil combined with Argentina as the 2010 World Cup winner. Read more about why in the analysis below.

One of the biggest factors, in competitions like the World Cup, is without a doubt the historical tradition of the participating countries. In the 18 competitions played so far, only seven countries have won; Brazil (5), Italy (4), Germany (3), Argentina (2), Uruguay (2), France (1) and England (1). More interesting though, is the fact that no European country have won outside Europe. According to stats, eight World Cup competitions have been held outside Europe and no European nation has managed to win yet. At the same time only two countries have won outside their on continent, which are Brazil (three times) and Argentina (one time).

Of cause you can not pick the winner on historical facts alone and the big question is; whether Brazil and Argentina still has, what it takes to repeat history in South Africa this summer?

Argentina:
Argentina must be considered somewhat of a wildcard for the World Cup title. If you look at their qualification alone, it was not that good and the national icon and now coach, Diego Maradona, must do better this summer to stand a chance in South Africa.

This being said, we are quite confident this will be the case. Maradona might not be a world class coach, but on the positive side he has a world class squad to make up for this and more importantly he has Lionel Messi. Coming from what might be his best season ever and with his brilliant abilities overall, Messi could go on to copy Maradona’s masterpiece from 1986 in Mexico, where he lead Argentina to their second World Cup title. At the same time Messi will be joined by great goal scores like Gonzalo Higuain or Diego Milito, which make the Argentinean offense among the most powerful in South Africa this summer.

Since the qualification they have also shown more stability in the back and especially their 1-0 win in Germany was very impressive. In their last game they defeated Canada 5-0 and overall it looks very promising considering their practice games so far.

The biggest risk is surely their coach Maradona, but their world class squad is among the very best this World Cup has to offer, which make a bet on Argentina at odds 8.00 more than playable.

Brazil:
Brazil will almost always be a good pick for the winner at the World Cup and this time is no different. Even though they haven’t played nearly as well in this qualification and don’t have as many superstar players as normal, they have a more than capable squad. This might even be an advantage for the Brazillian team, which looks more homogenous without any superstar players. At the same time their defense looks stronger than ever before with Julio Cesar on goal and a great defensive line in front of him.

More than any other country Brazil also has the historical facts to back their role as a favorite. A total of 5 World Cup titles speaks for itself and the fact that traditions means more in the World Cup than any other football competition only enhance this fact. Their last title came in 2002 and Dunga’s men must hungry to show the world once again, that Brazil is on top when it comes to the World Cup in Football.

The history will always make Brazil a favorite and with a very capable squad to back it, they are more than playable at odds 6.00.

Sports betters can bet on Brazil or Argentina to win the World Cup on the following sports betting sites, which offer the highest odds on the two teams:

Brazil: odds 6.00 at 888sport.
Argentina: odds 8.00 at William Hill.

We recommend combining the two bets by betting 60% on Brazil and 40% on Argentina, which gives a combined odds of 3.2 on either team to win.

Formula 1 betting – Monaco Grand Prix

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Formula_1_MonacoAs always the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix offers some great betting opportunities. The track layout does not offer many overtaking possibilities and the first drivers out of grid usually do well here. This means a lot will be decided today by the constructors’ ability to time their pit-stops and their overall fuel strategy for the race in Monaco.

Mark Webber claimed back to back pole position as he won the qualification for the second time in a week, but he was closely followed by Robert Kubica in second. Actually the Red Bull driver only claimed his pole position by a great final lab yesterday, which hopefully could give us an exciting race today.

In third position after the qualification was Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, who was closely followed by Ferrari’s Felipe Massa and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton. Starting sixth in today’s race is Nico Rosberg, while Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button are right behind him.

The odds for the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix are as follows for the top 10:

1. Mark Webber – 1.73 – William Hill Sport
2. Robert Kubica – 5.50 – 888 Sport
3. Sebastian Vettel – 5.50 888 Sport
4. Felipe Massa – 13.00 Victor Chandler
5. Lewis Hamilton – 15.00 888 Sport
6. Nico Rosberg – 34.00 Victor Chandler
7. Michael Schumacher – 41.00 Victor Chandler
8. Jenson Button – 51.00 Victor Chandler
9. Rubens Barrichello – 151.00 William Hill Sport
10. Vitantonio Liuzzi – 251.00 888 Sport

With his pole position and win last week in the Spanish Grand Prix, Mark Webber is the overwhelming favorite for this race and it is hard to see anybody overtake him on this track. Both Webber and his teammate Vettel dominated last weeks Grand Prix in Spain and we could likely see a copy again today.

The few overtaking opportunities and the good performances so far from the Red Bull constructor team makes it difficult to bet against them. Our betting pick will be Mark Webber today as he will not be stopped unless the car brakes down. This said, his teammate Sebastian Vettel could be an interesting second choice today, but a lot will depend on the first 10 seconds out of the grid today. Whatever choice you make, it is important to bear in mind the constructors’ ability to change this race for good or bad by their strategy, which will likely determine the outcome today.

If you do not have a betting account on the sites above, you can sign up by clicking on the banners below, which will qualify you to a free bet on today’s Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Chelsea v Wigan Premier League – betting tips and preview

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Chelsea vs WiganChelsea host Wigan today in the last Premier League round at Stamford Bridge at 16:00 GMT.  In this last round of the Premier League to played today a lot excitment still remain in regards of the title race, while it is already decided which teams are to be relegated this season.

Chelsea, currently 1 point ahead of Manchester United, will secure the championship and £16,000,000, if they beat Wigan today at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s last Premier League title came back in 2006 and in between Manchester United have had the luxury of winning three consecutive titles.

Today Chelsea can claim back the trophy and deny Manchester United a record breaking fourth title. The only small concern Carlo Ancelotti might have is that Wigan in fact did win the first match in the season against Chelsea 3-1, but the players will know what is at stake and give everything they have to prevent another disastrous point loss to the Wigan side today. From a betting point of view and with their recent goal scoring form, Chelsea have shown it is to be expected that the team will have secured the win already at half-time. Odds 1.57 is currently available at William Hill on the outcome that Chelsea lead by halftime and continue to win the match.

Furthermore it is expected that Chelsea scores plenty of goals and will continue to put pressure on Wigan regardless of the score during the match. Betting on more than 3 goals scored in the game is a solid betting opportunity today, which can be found at almost even with most bookies. Punters should be looking at the Chelsea result during the match since this could open for some betting opportunities in the Manchester United – Stoke match. A big Chelsea lead might cause United to be less inclined to pressure in second half, should they not have blasted Stoke away before then. Read more about this in our Manchester United preview.

Arsenal vs Fulham Premier League – betting tips and match preview

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Arsenal vs Fulham bettingArsenal host Fulham in their last round fixture in the Premier League this season at 16:00 at Emirates Stadium. The Gunners can finish off their season in third place by winning against Fulham today, while Fulham is likely readying themselves for the coming Europa League final.

Going into this final match Arsenal will once again end the season empty-handed after a terrible finish, where they have really stumbled toward the end after winning only one out of the last five games and loosing three as well. Arsene Wenger’s positive and free-minded playing style has yet to produce any real results in recent years, which most leave the football loving French manager somewhat frustrated.

Before today’s London derby, Arsenal have only won two matches out of seven against London teams at Emirates Stadium, which is just not good enough for the premiership title. This said they have done well against Fulham at home, where the Gunners have six wins and two draws in eight matches. At the same time Arsenal must win today, if they are to keep third place and direct qualification for the Champions League.

On the other side Fulham has only one win in the last five matches and have not won any away games against London teams in 29 derby matches. This will likely not be turned around today as their head is surely somewhere else. With the Europa League final against Atletico Madrid just around the corner on Wednesday, they will surely not risk any players and might rest some of their key players for the game at Emirates Stadium.

Looking at today’s game Arsenal is a mayor favorite going into the match, although they are still facing a lot of injury problems. Among the players out are Rosicky, Song, Bendtner, Fabregas, Gallas, Vermaelen, Denilson, Almunia and Ramsey, but with Clichy back and both van Persie and Arshavin on top, their team looks capable today.

Fulham has no major injury problems with only long-term injured Johnson out. This said they will be likely to save both Zamora and Duff for the game, who is struggling with minor injuries.

The match can played at odds 1.17 for Arsenal to win, 7.00 for a draw and 15.00 for Fulham to win at William Hill Sports.

As mentioned above, Arsenal is a clear favorite for the match and the bookmaker odds reflect this fact more than clearly with only odds 1.17 for Arsenal. However, Arsenal should also be able to beat a somewhat second best Fulham team, which is saving its best players. Our betting tip is to back Arsenal despite the low odds, especially because the Fulham players will have their mind somewhere else and Arsenal really needs the win today.

Formula One Betting – Spanish Grand Prix

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Formula 1 - bettingFormula 1 is returning to Europe for the first time this season for the Spanish Grand Prix at Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona. Red Bull’s Mark Webber will be starting in pole position in the race today at 13:00 GMT, but he has Sebastian Vettel right behind him, who is surely ready to overtake the lead from his Red Bull team-mate.

The Spanish Grand Prix is always one of the most exciting stops on the Formula One calendar. Many of the drivers know the track inside out, as Circuit de Catalunya has been on the calendar since 1991 and is used for both pre- and in-season training by many teams. The Barcelona Circuit is well-known for its great combinations of slow, medium and high speed corners, which make it a perfect test destination the Formula One teams. At the same time it is considered the place where the season really kicks off and normally the cars that perform well here will be quick anywhere.

In yesterday’s qualification for the Spanish Grand Prix, the Red Bull team showed their superiority by ensuring first and second position. The racing track at Circuit de Catalunya normally rewards cars with best grip and downforce, which were displaced well by the Red Bull cars during both practice and qualification. Securing first and second in two out of three practice sessions and once again dominating the qualification, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel will start the race from pole and second position. What had to be noted is that the qualification yesterday saw the improved Red Bull car do laps almost a full second faster than their competitors and the way is paved for Red Bull victory today. Actually the performance from Webber and Vettel was so strong, that it remain a huge question which other car and driver that could even come close to challenge the Red Bull team today.

So far the Red Bull team has only managed to win one race, even though they have secured pole position in each and every race. The Barcelona F1 Grand Prix will show if the Red Bull team have managed to improve the stamina of their car on top of the significant extra speed they showed in the qualification. Should the cars perform during the whole race today, then the rest of the field surely are fighting for third position and downwards, as Red Bull will take the first to places.

Mark Webber is rightfully the favorite in today’s Formula 1 Grand Prix and can be backed at 888sport, William Hill and Victor Chandler at the price of 2.20, while Sebastian Vettel is a close second favorite and can be played at odds 2.37 at 888sports and William Hill.

This said sport betters should be aware of the possibility of rain today, which might help the drivers in third to sixth position. Therefore you could also consider betting on an outsider today with higher odds. Currently you can back Lewis Hamilton at 7.50 at William Hill, Fernando Alonso at 13 at Victor Chandler, Jenson Button at 21 Victor Chandler and Michael Schumacher at 41 at 888sport. They are all than capable of taking Red Bull on, if the track should get wet, especially if the team botches their tire selection like they did in China.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Premier League – Betting tips and match preview

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Premier LeagueManchester City will be playing Tottenham tonight in the Premier League at 20:00 GMT in their second last fixture of the season. The stakes are high for both clubs as they are playing for fourth place in the league and a place in next years Champions League. We have looked at the teams before the big Premier League clash.

A win for Tottenham tonight at The City of Manchester Stadium would guarantee them a place in Champions League next year, which would be their first appearance ever and a great accomplishment for the club. Having been placed at fourth place most of the season, it would be a big disappointment should they miss this goal now. Tottenham have won the previous three clashes between the two clubs and you have to go back to the 07/08 season for the last Manchester City victory. This must give them confidence before tonight’s match, which will be needed in this tough away game. In their last five fixtures they have won three and lost two, but it is somewhat worrying that all victories come at home. Actually Tottenham have only won six away matches out of seventeen this season, which must be a bit worrying for manager Redknapp. For tonight’s match Tottenham could be without defender Ledley King depending on his fitness, while goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is somewhat doubtful.

On other hand Manchester City can leave matters in their own hands tonight by winning. This would leave them ahead in the table and could give them the Champions League ticket, if they win their last match too. Should they not make it tonight, it would be a huge disappointment for the club after spending large sums of money to reach top four this summer. This said they did take the first step by beaten Aston Villa 3-1 this Saturday and are looking to take the next step today. Before the match tonight they have only lost two games at home all season, which is quite a good record for Mancini’s squad. Both midfielder Stephen Ireland and defender Joleon Lescott will be out due to injury tonight, but Gareth Barry could return to strengthen the centre midfield for Manchester City.

The match odds are available at 1.95 for Manchester City to win, 3.50 for a draw and 3.75 for Tottenham to win at William Hill Sports. The current bookmaker favorite is clearly Manchester, which is not surprising given their home advantage.

Looking at the match tonight it is very hard to ignore Tottenham’s poor away results this season. At the same time Manchester City have a very impressive home stat, which are likely to be improved tonight. Our betting tip will be to bet on Manchester City to win at odds 1.95 at William Hill Sports, which is more than playable at that price. Another good betting tip could be over 2.5 goals in the match at odds 1.70. In six out of the last eight Tottenham matches more than 2.5 goals have been scored, while the same stat for Manchester City says five out of the last eight.

Blackburn vs Arsenal Premier League – Betting tips and match preview

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

blackburn vs arsenal bettingBlackburn is hosting Arsenal today in the Premier League at 18:00 CET at Ewood Park. In this second last fixture of the season neither of the teams really have something to play for, although Arsenal could mathematically secure their 3rd place in the league, while Blackburn will be looking to finish of a good season today.

Only one month ago everything appeared great for Arsenal and they must have dreamed about going into this match as contenders for the Premier League title. However, their loss to league rivals Tottenham cost them the title and at the same time they were eliminated from the Champions League by Barcelona, which means yet another trophy less season for the Gunners.

The only motivation for Arsenal today will be to keep their 3rd place, which also would ensure that their rivals from Tottenham do not get there. But the lack of motivation by the Gunners has really showed lately after their elimination from any possible trophy this season, and their results speak for themselves with a 3-2 loss to Wigan after being in front by 2 goals, although they did get 0-0 in their last fixture against Manchester City.

On the other hand Blackburn could finish of a good season today by winning against Arsenal. Actually they will be able to get a top-half finish in the Premier League, if they can manage to get points from this match. This might give them some extra motivation today, if playing Arsenal is not enough in itself. Going into the match they have only lost one time out of the last 7 matches and even managed to draw against both Chelsea and Manchester. This said they only won two of the matches, while drawing four times.

The only doubtful player from Blackburn is Phil Jones, who will likely miss the game. Arsenal will likely be without Andrey Arshavin again, while Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is definitely out today.

The match odds at the moment stand at 3.75 for Black to win, 3.40 for a draw and 2.00 for Arsenal to win at William Hill Sports.

As it stands, the odds are quite even with Arsenal as a favorite. This is not surprising, given the match is quite hard to predict, because neither team really have anything to play for. The most solid betting tip might be to back the draw in this game, which are more than playable at the current odds. The lack of motivation by Arsenal lately will give Blackburn a good chance today and at the same time Arsenal only need one point secure 3rd place, which make the draw a likely result for today’s game.

Liverpool vs Chelsea Premier League – Betting tips and match preview

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Liverpool vs ChelseaLiverpool will play Chelsea today in the Premier League at 14:30 CET at Anfield, but will they be able to stop Chelsea in their bid for the Premier League title. With only two matches remaining of the season, Liverpool has nothing left to play for, while Chelsea can put pressure on Manchester United by winning today or loose an important step in the title race.

After their exit to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League on Thursday, Liverpool’s season can be summed up in one word; failure. Benitez’s squad now looks to miss out on any title this season, while fourth place and Champions League qualification seems long gone for the Reds. With only two games remaining they need maximum points in their last fixtures to reach fourth place, but at the same time they need help from other sides as well, which is unlikely to happen.

Despite this Liverpool has had a good run lately in the Premier League, where they are undefeated in their last five fixtures and could finish the season with a positive state of mind. It would surely give a confidence boost going into next season undefeated in seven games, which must be the current goal for Benitez’s side. At the same time they must be optimistic before today’s game at Anfield, where they have won 11 times against Chelsea in the Premier League era, which is quite a good record. Actually they have won 9 out of 10 games at Anfield playing against the top Premier League clubs and are a handful for anybody at home.

Chelsea could lock up the title in today’s game by winning, if Manchester United looses their later fixture at Sunderland. Although possible, it seems likely the battle will go on to the last round and Chelsea is somewhat forced to win in any case to keep their lead. Ancelotti’s squad is surely aware of this fact and how important it will be to get maximum points in today’s fixture at Anfield. However, Chelsea has yet to find a way through Liverpool, who has managed to keep a clean sheet in four out of six times against the London side. On other hand Chelsea is playing superb at the moment with five wins in six away games and 23 goals, although they lost their last away game to Tottenham 2-1.

Liverpool will likely play with a similar starting line, as the one they had in midweek game against Atletico Madrid. With Torres still out, Kuyt and Ngog will probably be on top again, but they were questionable for the game against Atletico, which might effect whether they have the fitness to play again today. Chelsea is probably without midfielder Obi Mikel for the match, while also Essien and Bosingwa is missing for the fixture. On the positive side they might have Carvalho back, while Terry will be returning from his suspension.

Looking at today’s game a lot of question marks come to mind. With Liverpool unable to reach anything this season, it will be hard to predict their motivation for this game and whether the loss against Atletico will affect their performance today. At the same time Chelsea showed weakness in their game against Tottenham and might fall victim to the pressure today.

The match odds current stand at 4.20 for Liverpool to win, 3.75 for a draw and 1.80 for Chelsea to win at William Hill Sports. However, the question marks mentioned above, make it hard to predict the outcome. Our betting tip will be to back Chelsea though, which is highly based on their motivation for the game and the fact that Liverpool played a midweek game, where they not only lost, but also spend a lot of energy with the match going into over time.

Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid Europa League – match preview and betting tips

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

europa-league-bettingLiverpool is the host tonight when Atletico Madrid comes to play the Reds in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final at 20:45 CET. The Spanish team won the first leg 1-0 in Madrid, which forces Liverpool to win with at least two goals today, but it will not be easy against a strong and highly motivated Atletico team with a one goal advantage. In our preview we have looked at the two teams’ chances to go to the Europa League final and found the best betting tips for the game at Anfield.

Going into the game Liverpool needs to overturn the deficit from the first match, which is not a new situation for the Reds in this year’s competition. In both previous knockout rounds they lost away to Lille and Benfica, but comfortably won their home game the following week. At the same time Liverpool played superbly in last weekend’s away game at Burnley, where they won 4-0. This must leave the team quite confident before tonight’s match, which can provide them a ticket to a European final and maybe trophy in the end. In a season where Liverpool has been struggling a lot, this would be hardly needed and might save their season overall.

Atletico Madrid is in a similar situation in the Primera Division, where they have performed poorly throughout the season. They are surely hoping the Europa League can save their season and the 1-0 lead must leave them optimistic for the match. Atletico Madrid’s previous results away also suggest they have a good chance tonight after drawing 2-2 away against both Valencia and Sporting Lisbon, while beating Galatasaray 2-1. At the same time they won 3-1 against Tenerife in their last domestic league game after loosing three matches in a row.

Before tonight’s game Liverpool is really struggling with their attack. With Fernando Torres out already due to a knee injury, they must place their faith on Dirk Kuyt and David Ngog who are both lacking fitness and tries to become fit from injuries. If they do not get ready for the match, the job will be left to Ryan Babel, but no matter what it will be a weakened attack. In addition Martin Kelly, Martin Skrtel, Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio are all sidelined because of injuries, while Maxi Rodriquez is banned from European football. On the other hand Atletico Madrid will have their star striker Sergio Aguero back, who will enter their already capable attack with Diego Forlan, Jose Antonio Reyes and Simao Sabrosa.

Looking at tonight’s match both clubs really need to go to through to the final, if they are to have any success this season. This importance of match might play a big role tonight as the nerves kicks in and the match is to be decided. Our betting tip therefore is to back Liverpool in tonight’s semi-final, which can be played at odds 1.57 and 2.60 for the handicap bet at William Hill Sports. We predict the many European games played by Liverpool in recent years will be a big advantage tonight, mainly because of the importance of the game, where experience plays a big part. At the same time the match will be played at Anfield, which any opponent should fear.

The main problem with the bet will probably be Liverpool’s attack, but hopefully Kuyt and Ngog will be ready, and if not, the reserves will take their chance. Sport Betters looking to back the draw or Atletico Madrid can currently get odds 4.00 and 5.50 respectively at William Hill Sports
