pokerstars-all-stars

Active online poker players will have surely realized till now that Poker Stars is endorsed by some of the biggest names of the modern poker world including Chris MoneyMaker, Peter Eastgate, Daniel Negreanu plus other names which have both found their position on the leader boards of high standard events like the WSOP, the EPT and the WPT. Surely the successful recipe started with Chris Money Maker back in 2003 but over time since has continued to grow longer and become more prestigious every year; therefore attracting more players seeking for the package of the American Dream.

The successful recipe of getting big names on board or identifying players with potential and making them turn out to be names has been successfully been followed by most major poker rooms with Full Tilt Poker being the poker room managing to benchmark the technique with most success by endorsing names like Phil Ivey and Chris Jesus Ferguson under their wing.

Now what makes this post news is that PokerStars is now giving players more chances ever before to watch them play, chat and even compete against them for cash by introducing Team Pro Tuesdays, which is surely a smart strategy to boost the poker room traffic on a so called slow day. On this day every week, scores of the PokerStars pro players will be logging on and playing at the tables, covering everything from cash games to tournaments, across a wide range of games and buy-in levels. You’ll be able to watch your favorite players in action, and talk to them from the rail.

Team Pro Tuesdays will also include two Outlast the Pro tournaments, where you can play against the big names and win cash by lasting longer than the Pros. There are two tournaments running each Tuesday from December 8-29. One at 13:00 ET, another at 20:00 ET. Each has a buy-in of only $11, with $1,000 added to the prize pool. Stay in the tournament longer than all the Pros and you’ll get to split the extra cash with the other players still left in. See the example below for more on how it works. How to find Team Pro and play against them

Team PokerStars Pro players will be online every Tuesday between 12:00-15:00 ET and 19:00-22:00 ET. To find which players are online at any time, download PoekrStars, open the PokerStars software and click the ‘Team Pro’ button at the bottom of the main lobby window. Alternatively, click ‘Requests’ in the top menu bar and select ‘Find a Team PokerStars Player’. To register for an Outlast the Pro tournament, open the PokerStars lobby, click ‘Tourney’ & ‘All’.

Even more today is in reality one of the best days for the PCA qualifiers at Poker Stars with the Freeroll Fantasy Satellites being the games for new PokerStars players to look out for. These and all PCA qualifiers give you the chance to win a trip to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure which will be hosted at the Atlantis resort Atlantis in The Bahamas. The winners of the qualifiers will get a prize package valued around $15,000, which will cover all expenses including accommodation and buy in to the event itself. The Freeroll Fantasy events are real freerolls, but they are there are more ways to qualify. Page after page of events such as the Frequent Player points events and cash games, some for as little as $8.80. In the PokerStars lobby look under Events, PCA to find the satellites.

Phil Ivey, the WSOP 2009, Tom Durrrr Dwan, PokerStars and Full Tilt

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

An exciting week has gone by us and surely one that will go in history as November 9 is in the past, the WSOP 2009 has announced its $8.5 million 21 year old winner Joseph Cada, Full Tilt has signed up Tom “Durrrr” Dwan and the leading poker room of the world PokerStars is going all in with a boosted Sunday tournament rising up the figure to $2,500,000 competing shoulder by shoulder to the Full Tilt FTOPS which is surprisingly giving away the exact same figure this evening.

Review of the Week

  • The 2009 WSOP was one of the most exciting, the poker community has experienced in a number of years with Phil Ivey of Full Tilt Poker missing out on a bracelet from a hit coming from a 21 year old Pokerstars Pro. Even more this past week has seen talk of the town “Durrrr” take some serious beating accumulating to a total of a $3 million dollars of a loss from Isildur1 and at the same time announcing to start a Durrr Blog which will be tossing away strategy skills. The reasons behind his decision are a mystery.
  • In addition this week the son of Barry Greeenstein has striked the six digit number in Twitter followers; Joe Sebog which is primarily involved with pokerroad.com is the son of the popular “Robin Hood of Poker”. Sebog which is spokesperson for UB is proving to be a popular and well accepted player and representative for the popular poker room endorsed by Phil Helmuth and Annie Duke.
  • Coming back to Annie Duke, the Ultimate Bet poker ace Annie Duke sister of Howard Lederer of Full Tilt, will be hosting an exclusive presentation on how to use poker skills in everyday life. The “Use Poker Skills for Life” presentation will take part in parallel with the Annie Duke Celebrity Poker Night which benefits the Decision Education Foundation. Both events will take place on Nov. 19 at the Commerce Casino in L.A. The free presentation will start at 6:30 p.m. and guest entry is on a first come, first serve basis, for up to 80 attendees.

Phil Ivey Exit Hand (All eyes On Me)

Monday, November 9th, 2009

A big part of the poker community was cheering for Phil Ivey at the final table as he of course would be a great ambassador for poker the coming year. However Phil Ivey never really got a break at the final table and even he managed to chip up a little during the session he was more or less always covered in vhips by many of his opponents making elimination a possibility in each and every hand he played.

His final hand against Darvin Moon was a bit unlucky as Phil Ivey had Darvin dominated holding AK versus AQ. Darvin called Phil Ivey’s all in raise with his AQ and no one can really blame that call as Phil Ivey’s all in raising range definitely was beyond AA, KK, QQ, AK. A queen hit the flop and with no help for Ivey he hit the rail.

Not long before his exit hand Phil Ivey lost a coin flip to the current chip leader Joseph Cada when Phil’s A8 did not improve against Cada’s 44. Winning that hand might have saved Phil’s tournament life as holding 12.000.000 extra chips in the stack might have cause Darvin Moon to consider twice before entering into a battle against Phil only holding AQ.

Darvin stopped the bleeding of chips in this hand returning to 40.000.000 chips and from there he continued to chip up and managed to outdraw Steve Begleiter in a monster pot holding AQ once again this time versus QQ. Moon might think back on this WSOP if he ever has to name a favorite hand and no one should be surprised to see a real big pot tonight with Darvin once again holding AQ. It could very well be the hand that will send him out of the tournament and send the WSOP bracelet and $8.500.000 to Joseph Cada.
