Full Tilt Poker sign sponsor deal with Formula 1 team

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Play Online PokerFull Tilt Poker just announced they have signed a sponsor deal with the Formula 1 racing team Virgin Racing. The deal will already be in effect this weekend at the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya, where the drivers from Virgin Racing will be wearing the Full Tilt Poker logo.

Consequently fans of Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi can look forward to see the two team Virgin Racing drivers wearing the Full Tilt Poker brand, which will also be present on the drivers’ cars and other team material from Virgin Racing team.

According to both brands the deal concludes a long term discussion dating back to Virgin Racing’s birth in Formula 1 last November. In their joint press release yesterday both Team Full Tilt member, Chris Ferguson, and Virgin Racing chief executive officer, Graeme Lowdon, expressed great excitement about the new partnership and looked forward to launching their cooperation this weekend in Spain.

Although the partnership between Full Tilt and Virgin Racing was seemingly long underway, it has likely been speed up as part of the more long term strategy from Full Tilt Poker, who has increased its marketing effort in Europe over last months in light of the increasing competition from rivals PokerStars and Party Poker over the European market.

DriveDreamConveniently for Full Tilt Poker the deal came just shortly after Party Poker also signed with Toro Rosso’s driver Jaime Alguersuari and former Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichela. A signing, which was part of a more aggressive strategy from Party Poker, in light of the increased competition and losses in revenue on the European poker market recently.

Interestingly enough Full Tilt Poker has chosen to launch their Partnership with Virgin Racing on same date Party Poker chose to launch their new sponsorship with Alguersuari. Party Poker even offers their players a chance to win tickets for the Valencia Grand Prix through their poker room, which might be turn out to be free marketing for Full Tilt Poker in the end.

Party Poker improves software again

Monday, October 26th, 2009

In October Party Poker made their fifth software upgrade in 2009 this time introducing players to bounty tournaments and a “remember table layout” feature. The bounty tournaments are a great improvement of the already broad variety of poker tournament variations offered by Party Poker. In bounty tournaments players are awarded cash whenever the kick one of their fellow poker players out of the tournament and it is no longer needed to get in to the prize money to win a little cash as bounty funds from beating other opponents are credited player accounts immediately.

The “remember table layout” feature is another great improvement as the software now will remember the position and size of tables and will open new tables in the exact same position and size as the ones that has been closed down.

Another small improvement is the player note system where it now is possible to just double click on a player at the table and a note screen with the player nick opens and make the note interface faster than before.

In September Party Poker made a major upgrade including hand history replayer function plus super speed games with auto posting of blinds and less time to act which is something the players seems to be enjoying watching the number of super speed game tables running.

The June update introduced Party Poker players to 9 handed tables and also included an “end tournament before time” feature where satellite tournaments or other tournaments with equal prize distribution to winners now ends as soon as players hit the money.

April was the month where Party Poker introduced Heads-up tournaments plus an automatic buy in option for cash games and tournaments.

Download Party Poker and experience one of the best and most innovative poker software’s today.

Party Poker World open taken down by Phil Unabomber Laak

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Play Party Poker

Party Poker World open taken down by Phil Unabomber Laak: The final table at Party Poker World Open V had a great lineup with some really strong professional players competing for the $250.000 first prize. Phil Unabomber Laak ended as the final winner leaving online qualifier Jan Veit as the runner up taking home $100.000 and Luke FullFlush1 Schwartz in third position winning $40.000.

With a $1.400.000 in total live time tournament winnings and a mediocre 2009 ($32.000 in winnings) so far the $250.000 certainly adds to Phil Laak’s poor results recently. Actually this win secure that he more than double his 2008 result and hopefully it gives a boost to the Unabomber’s tournament form so we will see him at more final tables.

Winning Party Poker World Open was not really in the cards for Phil as he chipped down at a fast pace at the final table and at one point was left with only 47.000 tournament chips when blinds were 15k/30k. A series of doubling ups where Phil Laak on several occasions was behind made him come back in to the game and finally saw him self heads up against online qualifier Jan Veit who really presented him self well at the final table. Phil Laak holding A8 vs. Veit’s A4 crippled the Austrian who then had to showe it all in with J7 against Unabomber’s Q9. The board bricked out and Phil Laak’s first real tournament victory since the William Hill Grand Prix first place finish in 2005 was a reality.

Spectators can look forward to see this final table when it airs later this year as Luke FullFlush1 Schwartz as usual is unstoppable trash talking his opponents. Luke was fairly unlucky not going into the heads up against Phil Laak but still he once again proved himself as a great poker player with his third place finish.

Final result of Party Poker World Open V:

1. Phil Unabomber Laak $250.000
2. Jan Veit $100.000
3. Luke FullFlush1 Schwartz $40.000
4. Bodo Sbrzesny $30.000
5. Jennifer Tilly $25.000
6. Mike Sexton $20.000
7. Andy Black $15.000

Party Poker World Open V- Luke “FullFlush1” Schwartz wins heat 1

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Play Party Poker

He came, he saw, he conquered but not without a lot of pain to it. Luke Schwartz managed to prove he is a poker player to be reckoned after winning heat 1 of the Party Poker World Open V after beating the German online qualifier Christian Schaffer heads up. It was not in the cards that Luke Schwartz was even going to get a chance to participate in the Party Poker World Open V as he was rejected at the door step when trying to enter the Genting Stanley Group premises. A recent ban during the EPT London for grabbing an Egg sandwich without paying led to Luke FullFlush1 Schwartz being banned from the Palm Beach Casino in London and now it seems the ban is actually nationwide for the 25 year old UK poker professional. Party Poker officials had to promise to escort Luke at all times while in the casino and to be responsible for his actions to make the casino allow Luke Schwartz to enter the World Open V.

For Luke this was a great chance to prove him self at the poker tables and despite all the fuss he managed to go on to be his heat opponents. It was a tough heat the young Brit faced and players like Yevgeniy Timoshenko and WSOP main event finalist James Akenhead was obstacles needed to be removed for Schwartz before advancing to round two which is to be played Thursday. The winner takes home a first prize of $250.000 and if the casino in the days to come decide to go hard on FullFlush1 then the Egg scandal might cost him the chance of winning $250.000 which certainly will make the famous egg sandwich the most expensive in the world.

Heat 2 was also played yesterday with poker superstar Phil Laak in the drivers seat from the very first minute of the heat. A lot of raising managed to make Phil take control over the table which Praz Bansi decided to fight and the two players played a big pot early on in the game. Praz managed to make a huge bluff on the river but Phil Laak decided to call a scary board with his two pairs and raked in a big pot. Phil Laak then lost a very big pot with AK vs. TT leaving him with only 50.000 in chips but managed to claw his way back again and again to finally end up playing Patrick Funke for the Heat 2 win. When the dust settled in a hand where Patrick Funke had his AK outdrawn by Phil’s A8, Phil Laak advanced to the final table where it will be great to see the Unabomber play against FullFlush1.

Heat 3 which saw on of the more exiting line ups including Jennifer Tilly, Tom “Durrrr” Dwan, Sammy “Any Two” George, Neil Channing and Roland De Wolfe are still to be concluded and sees the Unabomber’s girlfriend Jennifer Tilly controlling the table. Tilly eliminated Durrrr early on with AA vs. JJ holding up and the Full Tilt poker sponsored UK player Roland De Wolfe are also out in fifth place. Heat 3 is still to be concluded and the winner will be found between Jennifer, Neil and Sammy George. No doubt it would be great to see Sammy nail this one as him and Luke Schwartz at the same final table could create some spectacular TV. Updates regarding the Party Poker Open will be posted as soon as we know the results of the heats.

Party Poker represented in Italy by Giancarlo Fisichella

Monday, October 12th, 2009

The well know Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella has come to an agreement with Party Poker in regards of representing the online poker site in Italy. Party Poker has recently begun to put together a “pro” poker team of players using a grassroots approach instead of finding notable names and already established poker stars to represent them around the world. Giancarlo Fisichella does not really fit in to this group as he is one of the more famous Formula1 drivers currently seated in one of the Ferrari’s as a stand in for Felipe Massa who earlier this year had an accident and had to take some time of the race track.

However as Giancarlo are mainly going to be the Party Poker representative in Italy due to legislation reasons he is a perfect fit into a media strategy for that country. Party Poker once again show they are capable of finding the best ways of promoting their brand and it is easy to understand why they are still the most recognized online gaming company in the world.

Giancarlo Fisichella already represented Party Poker back in June when the Sports Challenge IV was filmed and representativies from Party Poker saw a lot of potential in creating a relationship with the sympatic and world famous Formula1driver. If Giancarlo are as fearless on the poker tables as he is when blasting his formula1 race car up to more than 300 kilometers an hour then he will be a reckless opponent other poker players will face when he is representing Party Poker at live events.

Lately other former sportstars have made good results in live poker tournaments which Teddy Sheringham the former English national football striker showed recently at Worl Series of Poker Europe and European Poker Tour London where he cashed in both events. The worlds biggest online poker site PokerStars have also seen the value in signing current and former well known sportsstars as representatives for their brand and their team of players consist of the famous German tennis player Boris Becker, the Swedish hockey legend Mats Sundin, the flying Finn and one of the worlds best powerboat racers, Sami Selio plus the most famous female field hockey players in Netherlands, Fatima Moreira de Melo and the fifth and currently last member of team PokerStars SportStars is a the French rugby superstar Sebastien Chabal.

One name is above them all and if the swimming icon Michael Phelps is ever going to sign a contract with any online poker site then this poker site will have made the scoop of the century. As Michael Phelps has a long and deep interest in the game of poker it is not unlikely we will see him wear either a PokerStars or Full Tilt Poker shirt in the coming years.

For other poker players it will be a great experience when facing all these famous sport stars at the felt in live tournaments as being seated next to one of those will ensure interviews and Media coverage beyond what would have happened if the player next had just been some random Full Tilt or PokerStars Pro.
