Manchester United vs Arsenal – FA Cup Match Preview and Betting Tip
Posted on March 12, 2011 by Craig Mitchell
Things went from bad to worse for Manchester United and they need to change something fast, if they are to keep their title hopes alive. Liverpool and Chelsea stripped them from six important points and gave Arsenal a fighting chance in the remaining rounds. Furthermore, the Champions league campaign is not going silky smooth, as the lack of opportunities in Marseille clearly point out. A victory tonight will not only ease their access in the semi finals of the FA Cup, but also boost their morale.
Match Preview for Manchester United vs Arsenal
Arsenal is hardly in a better position, and although they are closer to winning the Premier League than they were two weeks ago, it is not their merit. Despite the favorable context, they were unable to help themselves out and are still counting on a sudden meltdown from United. The European adventure ended abruptly, as they got completely outplayed in Barcelona, with the only goal being scored by an opponent in his own net.
The problem is that the Gunners lost more than qualification in that match, also rushing Fabregas and he is now back to the injury list. In his absence, Van Persie will captain the team, but his performance lately has been well below the expectations. Extremely nervous and unable to focus on the game itself, he is more of a liability than an asset, missing most of his team’s chances to score. The injury plagued Arsenal is going to have a tough mission in finding the spaces for positional attacks and will resort as usual on fast counter attacks.
With Walcott, Fabianski, Song and Vermaelen joining Fabregas on the injury list, the offensive will suffer a lot. In the opposite end, the situation is equally grim, as goalkeeper Szczeny is expected to miss and be replaced by Almunia. Manchester United has its own share of injuries, with Ferdinand, Hargreaves, Park, Nani and Anderson struggling to regain fitness. These absences had a detrimental impact on United’s performance lately, but they will face a team that has the same problem and fewer solutions to replace the missing veterans.
Betting tip for Manchester United vs Arsenal
The stakes are not as high as one might suspect, with the FA Cup being the secondary competition for both clubs, but another defeat will be difficult to accept by either side. The hosts will welcome back Vidic, who is going to partner Smalling in the backline and this should bring a little more confidence in Rio’s absence. Manchester United has yet to lose a match at home this year, and at these odds it is worth backing them at full stakes.
