Irelands Cultural Capital Welcomes Annual Irish Poker Open

Irish Poker OpenDublin welcomes the longest running Texas Hold ‘em tournament in Europe, the Irish Poker Open, from the 22nd – 25th April 2011 and 888poker are offering you a weekly chance to be at the main event.

Package worth $7200

With the roots of this tournament originating in 1981, 888poker are offering a package worth $7,200 to be part of this historic competition. The package includes spending money, accommodation and a seat during the main event.

Currently, the only poker tournament that has been running longer than the Irish Poker Open (IPO)  is the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, which suggests that some very interesting characters are going to be turning out in force during April to see what they can do in the Emerald Isle and whether they will have the ‘Luck of the Irish’.  Previous winners include Christer Johansson (’09), Neil Channing (’08) and Liam Flood (’90 and ’96).

Liam Flood the IPO winner in 1990 and 1996 was a closed friend of Terry Rodgers who created the tournament and since Rodgers passed away in 1999 Flood has been running the tournament.

Grown significantly

Since 2005, when less than 200 players entered the competition, it has grown significantly. In 2010 the Irish Poker Open attracted over 700 players and it is expected that in 2011 that number will rise again.  The thing that is so great about the IPO is that it is more than just a ‘main event’, there are many different tournaments including Turbo, NLH Scalps and Ladies Event NLH Freezeout depending on what you fancy.

The Burlington Hotel in Dublin is easily accessible as it is only 8km from Dublin port and Dublin airport is close by also. Although if you do intend on driving around the city leave at least 40 minutes for your journey to and from the airport as nothing  will save you against the notorious Dublin traffic.  The Burlington welcomes people of all ages to the tournament, so if your husband, wife or other half is playing in the competition it’s well worth a look around the city to see why it has been called the Cultural Capital of Ireland. Make sure to visit the famous distilleries, Dublin zoo, Trinity College and the Book of Kells.

888poker are offering a weekly chance for you to be sitting at the main event  which include the daily freeroll or opting to go straight to the qualifier every Sunday evening.
