Chelsea vs Manchester United – Match preview and betting tip
Posted on March 1, 2011 by Craig Mitchell
It really doesn’t get any better than this. The two teams that have been dominating the Premier League during the last decade go head to head in a match that will possibly decide the team, who wins the trophy this year and the configuration of the podium. If Chelsea loses tonight, they can kiss the League goodbye, or in the best case they can still hope for a place in the champions League. As for Manchester, a defeat will allow Arsenal to close the gap and reignite the race for the title.
Match Preview Chelsea vs Manchester United
The visitors have form on their side, with a record that is hard to match, and following the trashing of Wigan away from home confidence must high. On the flipside, they must break the ice and record the first win away from home in a clash with Chelsea, a team they didn’t defeat on Stamford Bridge since 2002. It looks like a good opportunity to do so, but the injury list is pretty impressive and there are still some things to be taken into account.
Rio Ferdinand, Hargreaves, Valencia, Park, Anderson and Evans are all going to miss this fixture, some of them due to long term injuries, other simply because they are doubtful, and Ferguson is in no mood to risk anything. The good news is that Manchester has plenty of depth, and he will field a competitive first eleven that should be able to inflict enough damage, once they build some pressure. With Berbatov and Rooney upfront it is certain that they will have the tools to threat Cech’s net, and they don’t need many chances to score.
Chelsea on the other hand is slowly sinking into mediocrity like an old man into a hot tub, and with another defeat, their bid for the Champions League spots will be almost lost. Gradually they’ve settled for lower goals, and it looks that games like these and the European campaign is the only way they can prove their worth. Winning away in Copenhagen last week boosted their morale, but even if they have the support of the fans, tonight’s mission is going to be much more difficult.
Betting tip Chelsea vs Manchester United
I don’t contest the ambition and dedication Chelsea has to defeat its bitter rival and deny their title hopes, but I wouldn’t bet monopoly money on a home win tonight. Form is a much better indicator than tradition and although in big games such as this one, they both fade, United has the upper hand. Since they are understaffed and lack key players in defense and midfield, I wouldn’t go for a straight win, but rather a double chance bet with Manchester not to lose.
Betting tip – Double Chance X2.
